Question 1. What do think is good about the area? Residents are friendly. Palmers Green feels like a safe place to live. Lots of people care about the area. There is a good park. The farmers’ market, if it can survive. Waitrose! Question 2. What do you think is less good about the area? The high street is dangerous to cross. The whole high street looks a bit down-at-heel. Too many nail bars, coffee bars, pound shops, cheap fashion outlets and betting shops. Question 3. What would you like to see to improve the area? More street trees and planters; pavement café; wine bar (the old Grouts would have been brilliant);.......

Question 1. What do think is good about the area? Having lived in Palmers Green for 40 years, it has lost a lot of charm over time but is still a nice area with lots of potential!! People are nice and there are good schools, nice parks and generally a good feel but the High Street is lacking in having any positive charms. Question 2. The work on the conservatory and orchard are brilliant and each visit develops a new idea. I especially liked the art/craft sessions observed in the palm house. Question 2. Question 1. What do think is good about the area? The lovely old houses and buildings in the high street, the shops and restaurants. Question 2. What do you think is less good about the area? Far too much signage and railings everywhere. The loss of the huge tree at Aldermans hill triangle is a huge blow. I counted 48 signs and railings in this small area alone. The Victorian toilets should either be opened again or got rid of, along with the monstrous 70’s style flower beds. Put in a new.......

Question 1. What do think is good about the area? It’s multi-cultural and there are very good transport links to London and surrounding areas. It’s lively and there are lots of restaurants and pubs and a fair selection of shops. There are lots of parks/greenspace in the surrounding area which is excellent. Question 2. Question 1. What do think is good about the area? It’s open, not too crowded and still retains character unlike many of the new shopping developments which are more or less all the same. Some of the shops are very unique like the arty and antique shops. Question 2. What do you think is less good about the area? There are very few special events taking place there, a lot of the food shops are greek/Turkish so there isn’t much diversity and the streets/pavements ect are fairly dull and.......

My family and I generally feel safe and there is a good selection of restaurants and bars to socialise. There are good parks either side of the town and has a wonderful atmosphere. Question 2. Question 1. What do think is good about the area? My family loves the public library in Palmers Green, we go there all the time. The children’s section is really nice with seating for young children and access to the toilet it makes it an ideal place to take little ones especially when the weather is not so good outside. Question 1. What do think is good about the area? Palmers Green has the feel of a community. It is varied in its make-up. It is mostly green tidy and safe. Question 2. What do you think is less good about the area? Shops in the High Street appear to becoming scruffier as they get taken up by charity shops. Not enough variety of shopping – can only see people moving out of town. Driving is awful – often dangerous! Youths hanging about more now – Starbucks, McDonalds and the Big Slick.......

Question 2. What do you think is less good about the area? Traffic flow in the area requires much greater thought and attention from planners especially now that the A406 roadworks near completion. Roads east of Green lanes (Lakes Estate) are used at cut-throughs.......

Question 1. What do think is good about the area? Great outdoor area with 2 wonderful parks – Broomfield Park & Grovelands Park, good primary schools and good transport links to Central London. The amount of tacky shops on the high street (e.g. betting shops, too many charity shops and most recently a cash/gold converter shop), very dirty pavements, gangs with dogs hanging around especially the Triangle area and Broomfield.......

Question 1. What do think is good about the area? Very  little. We have a mini-Waitrose. Store 21 is Ok. My optician is still  there. Question 2. What do you think is less good about the area?  Everything, now that the old  shops have gone. We used to have a large and interesting department store  – Evans &Davis; Grouts; fishmongers, butchers; Tesco, Sainsbury; a  bookshop; a good wine merchant. All gone. No pleasure in wandering around  down there.......

Question 2. What do you think is less good about the area? I live in Southgate and very seldom go to Palmers Green as I don't find it a very appealing place to shop. There are a number of reasons: It is difficult to cross the road at Green Lanes near the Triangle. I find there is little thought or priority for pedestrians For some reason the footpaths seem cluttered Parking is a problem It seems to be a mish mash of shops There is nothing stylish about the shops Shopkeepers in.......

There are a few good shops... generally a good mix catering to the diverse economic mix.. alderman’s hill and the park are more aesthetically pleasing than high st. Question 2. Green Lanes Palmers Green unfortunately gives the impression of being very ugly and downmarket when driving through. £1 shops with goods on the street etc.. some.......

Parts of Green Lanes are quite run down / feel a bit unsafe at times (e.g opposite the Fox). - Fair amount of day time drinkers hanging around between the Alfred Herring and the Fox pubs – can make the area unpleasant with children. Question 1. What do think is good about the area? Palmers Green is a largely attractive area with a diverse town centre. It has a good mix of independent traders and high street chains (over 120 units); a scattering of cafes and restaurants. There is very low vacancy in shops, which is contrary to national trends. Great! I shall respond since I am particularly concerned about the Conservation area frontages on Aldermans Hill. I raise this regularly with Development Control and the CAG (including Councillors). I have a list of outstanding issues which have been raised with Development Control over the last year, and I resubmitted it again at the last CAG. This initiative will help apply pressure to deal positively with problems; currently anything seems to go. There is a supplementary plan design.......

A butcher, a baker and a candlestick maker would be a good start. I visited Essex Rd for the first time recently, another busy bus route with a mix of affluent and deprivation. Simply having a good butchers, fishmongers and veg, a decent pub (and my personal favorite!) a lovely material shop/ cafe with space downstairs for courses, tutorials etc. gave me the hook to want to return. That peppered with an off-licence, betting, pound shop and all that we're familiar with up here is infinitely.......

Enhance the shopping experience and area by having theatre in central spaces, such as the Triangle. Have perhaps five local artists working in the high.......

Sadly after an excellent re-launch in December 2010, with a fantastic response from the public, the Sunday market in Palmers Green station car park is once again dwindling. This is largely due to lack of visibility despite various attempts at signage at the entrance to the car park.  Sadly there is a vicious circle at play in that not enough footfall discourages traders from coming and not enough traders makes the market less attractive and so it goes on.  With no funding, publicity.......

Less good -  sad some of the best independent shops have closed in recent years, eg the bookshop, café Anjou, the station café. Too much litter on the streets Too much dog mess on the pavements. This is a health hazard. Stop people spilling out of the fox drunk on a  Friday night We should actively reduce the number of betting shops. Way too many Broomfield park should be used for concerts Introduce a local “wedge” card like scheme which reward people for spending their money locally. Need to encourage local shops and penalise landlords / encourage landlords to let retail space Far too much litter on.......
