20 Mar 2025 My earlier message had an incorrect link to information about the Alexandra Palace Station step-free plans. Now corrected in the earlier message. The correct link is https://alexandraparkneighbours.org.uk/forum/update-on-alexandra-palace-station-refurbishment . Thanks for Bill for pointing this out.
20 Mar 2025 I asked Dave Cockle from the Enfield Society, who's something of an expert on public transport in the borough, if he had any news. He didn't, though he thinks that the station will be made step-free eventually. He did think that an alternative way of making the station step-free that I suggested was viable. This would use existing slopes or[…]
17 Mar 2025 It is extraordinary how far they got with the planning before realising it wasn't possible. It is the same situation with Winchmore Hill Station and several more stations further up the line but they haven't wasted any resources on proposals and detailed drawings.
16 Mar 2025 Thanks for this response – albeit, disappointing news. Based on my experience of asking receiving information from Network Rail (or, e.g., local councils), I think your reading is probably right. They are unlikely to say, simply, we've ditched it.
14 Mar 2025 Look at the history of this. It's not going to happen.
14 Mar 2025 I chased up Network rail earlier this month out of curiosity given the project seems to be the most complex engineering project in history given progress. The update wasn't good news: 'I am sorry I am unable to provide you with any good news on this. This is the response from the scheme sponsor 'The proposed access for all scheme[…]
13 Mar 2025 Agree, minimum 3 per hour off-peak, ideally back to pre-Covid's 4, and a dream result of the once-claimed objective of 6. Separately, I remain baffled by TfL's refusal to include our train line, and several equivalents, on their transport in London maps. Segments of London that are satisfied by rail transport, invariably including interchanges with the TfL network to make[…]
13 Mar 2025 I have been using the line regularly since I moved to the area in 2014 and it is a very useful route. Initially, I was commuting to work most days but since the pandemic have worked from home and use it less now but regardless of who is running it, I think that the minimum number of trains off-peak should[…]
13 Mar 2025 Thanks, Basil, for this comprehensive and, dare I say, slightly optimistic overview/answer.
12 Mar 2025 Straightforward questions, but no straightforward answers. I'll do my best to introduce Julius and other recent arrivals about the recent troubled history of our trains services, but I'm sure others will have things to add. First, my brief answers to the questions, then a bit of history. TfL taking over the services: good news? I'd say yes, almost certainly, though[…]
7 Mar 2025 I think it is interesting that this post doesn't say why we got to this situation of needing the survey in the first place. It is a bit of an 'elephant in the room' and understand fully why this has come about but a shame it has to take this kind of initiative to address it.
6 Mar 2025 What happened to this proposal?
6 Mar 2025 Thanks for sharing the following story in PG Community Newsletter: . I'm new to Palmers Green and likely to use the train from its station regularly. To me, it seems like good news that trains stopping at our station will be under TfL, but I could be wrong. What are neighbours experience of the trains from Palmer Green (timetable, reliability etc)?[…]
5 Mar 2025 [Original article] Article not displaying properly? Click here The Southgate Ward Safer Neighbourhood Team, together with the council's Journeys and Places Team and the Met Police, are running an event on 14th March to find out women's feelings about their safety in Southgate town centre. The "Walk, Talk and Do initiative" will take place between 3pm and 7pm on Friday[…]
