Question 1. What do think is good about the area?
Good – it’s a lovely area – very friendly and good range of shops. My 4 year old says “I like the park”
Question 2. What do you think is less good about the area?
Less good - sad some of the best independent shops have closed in recent years, eg the bookshop, café Anjou, the station café. Shortage of school places (we live 0.41 miles from Hazelwood and did not get a place)
Question 3. What would you like to see to improve the area?
Improve – more independent shops (but not nail bars!). better shop fronts – café Anjou and the bookshop were lovely
Question 4a. Specific aspects – traffic
Traffic – too fast coming over the bridge opposite the station towards the park.
Question 4b. Specific aspects – parking
Parking – there should be controlled parking on Broomfield avenue. This is our road and is the only one near the station with no controlled parking so it’s virtually impossible to park there in the day
Question 4d. Specific aspects – look of the shops/architecture
Look of shops – see my previous comments on independent shops. Café Anjou and the newly closed patisserie had distinctive , attractive shop fronts which have been replaced with standard frontage.
Question 4e. Specific aspacts – type and range of shops
Type of shops – fewer betting shops!
A park café
Better clothes shops
A pub for grown-ups who want a quiet drink
Question 4f. Specific aspects – amount and use of pavement space
Pavements – fine
Question 4g. Specific aspects – the Triangle public space
Triangle – it’s good to see it used as a community forum, eg by amnesty international and during elections
Any other comments
Other – palmers green does actually have a pretty good choice of shops compared to other high streets. There’s also very good customer service in most shops, especially Smiths, Boots and the local banks.
