Local social enterprise Cooking Champions is continuing to help feed hungry individuals and families and is currently operating from St Peter's Church in Grange Park. For Halloween, to raise money for its own use and also in support of The Little Things charity, Cooking Champions ran a couple of special events, one of which was a home-delivered Italian menu. The menu, under the supervision of PG resident and Leith-trained chef Clare Donovan, sold out quickly, so if you'd like to take advantage of Thai menu on Friday 13th or Saturday 14th November, you need to act fast.

Four months ago the staff of a north London care home didn't hold out much hope that their oldest resident would be with them for much longer - after all, Angela Hutor was 106 and suffering from Covid-19. But Angela made it through, becoming officially the oldest person in Britain to have beaten Covid, and earlier this month St Anne's in Stoke Newington laid on a special high tea party to celebrate her 107th birthday. But the coronavirus poses a threat not just to its residents, but also to the financial viability of the care home itself, which is appealing for urgent help from the local community.

A new report from Sustain and London Food Link, funded by Trust for London, looks at how services that ensure older adults can access meals in their homes are run, both before the Covid-19 pandemic and during it, across London. In the capital, adequate provision of meals on wheels services were not in place prior to lockdown. Where these exist, many face the possibility of being cut, annually. New, innovative services were being established in a few locations even before Covid-19, demonstrating that viable, affordable and effective solutions exist that could improve lives for thousands of older and disabled adults. During the lockdown, many innovative community solutions arose, which show great promise for the future if they are supported and funded.
