The latest video on Jenny Bourke's website Palmers Green Tales introduces us to Maxability, a rather unusual local charity which helps disabled adults maximise the development of their abilities. The story told by Emil and Anita Woolf involves a house with a huge room, a monster grand piano that was played by Rachmaninoff, a series of top quality concerts and lectures and a Romanian pottery teacher. Donate to the North Enfield Food Bank on Mitzvah Day - or any other day

Enfield Council is urging staff, residents and politicians to support the North Enfield Foodbank.  The Council is linking this call to Mitzvah Day, on which by Jewish tradition people give their time to help others.  This year Mitzvah Day falls on 27th November. Not that people are short of food only on one day a year.  Over the last year the foodbank gave 5,807 three-day emergency food supplies to people in crisis.  The reduction in the "benefits cap" which is currently.......

Wanted: A local scene suitable for a charity Christmas card

For the 23rd year in succession, Palmers Green United Reformed Church will play host to a multi-charity Christmas card shop.  And the shop's manager is on the lookout for a suitable photograph of a local scene to make into a Christmas card. The Cards for Good Causes shop launches this Saturday (29th October) and will be open between 10am and 4pm every day except Sundays until 10th December.  At 10.30am on 29th October there will be a grand opening ceremony by the Reverend Ray Adams -.......

Following the success of our first 'Will Month' in June 2016, we are delighted to announce that we will be launching another free-wills campaign in November 2016. During this campaign we will be working with a selection of local solicitors who are offering their time free of charge to write a basic will in exchange for either a donation to North London Hospice, or a pledge to leave a gift to us in your will. Lisa Rutty is a Friend of Talkies and volunteer. You may have seen her on the Talkies stall at festivals and at events. It was Lisa who brought local actor Jeremy Swift to Talkies for 'Downhill' and 'Men in Shorts'. Lisa is very gifted, kind, and fun to be with. She has helped out as a volunteer with many other local organisations. Tragically, late last year aged 53, Lisa suffered a major stroke and then contracted bacterial meningitis, resulting in serious brain damage. Lisa's partner Kevin.......

On April 15th 2016, I will be locked into the patient garden at Chase Farm Hospital to raise funds to redevelop the space into a therapeutic, sensory garden for dementia patients - a cause very close to my heart.  I will be locked in until I reach my target of £5,000!! North London Samaritans have got through the first stage of a submission to the Heritage Lottery Fund to restore the "Tin Tabernacle" in Bowes Park for use as a call centre and community centre.  To succeed in Stage 2 they need to prove that there is sufficient demand from community groups and other organisations who would wish to hire such a hall. Winter night shelter volunteers required

St Andrew's Church in Southgate has issued an appeal for people to volunteer to help run a winter night shelter. St Andrew's is one of several churches in the borough involved in the Enfield Churches Winter Night Shelter scheme, being run in association with All People All Places.  The scheme started operation earlier this week and St Andrews is providing overnight shelter on Wednesday nights for six weeks starting on 6th January, offering meals and a warm place to sleep to homeless.......

Further appeal for winter shelter volunteers

A new request has been made for volunteers to help run a church-based winter shelter and a second training event for volunteers has been arranged. The new request comes from the Vicar of All Saints Edmonton, where the shelter would operate on Sunday nights between 2nd January and 13th March 2016.
