Covid-19 Crisis Project offers extra support to abused women

The newly launched Covid-19 Crisis Project provides safe accommodation with specialist support to women and children fleeing domestic abuse and other forms of violence against women and girls (VAWG), across London during the pandemic. It is the equivalent of three refuges, offering up to 70 spaces for women and children, ensuite facilities, food, welcome packs and toys for children, along with specialist support.

Winchmore Hill care home at centre of investigation into Covid-19 deaths

On 20th April the Enfield Independent reported the death from Covid-19 of Sonya Kaygan, a 26-year old employee of the Elizabeth Care Home in Highlands Village, Winchmore Hill. Sonya's death prompted an investigation by the Reuters news agency centered on Elizabeth Lodge and other local care homes, whose highly disturbing findings were published on 5th May.

Council sets up new free-phone domestic abuse advice and reporting hub

Enfield Council and its partners have set up a dedicated domestic abuse hub to help tackle increasing numbers of cases caused by the COVID-19 lockdown. The free phone number 0800 923 9009 is available Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm.

North London Hospice has this week launched two urgent appeals asking the local community for help to maintain its end of life care services as the coronavirus pandemic deepens. It desperately needs the public to help meet an enormous shortfall in fundraising caused by the Covid-19 crisis, and it also is urgently seeking supplies of masks, aprons and gloves to protect its nurses and patients.

Haven House children's hospice emergency appeal

Like many charities, Haven House children's hospice raises money through its events programme and its charity shops, but all events are now cancelled for the foreseeable future and all shops are closed. It expects a loss of income of £500,000 in the next three months alone, and has launched an emergency appeal for donations. In order to continue to support vulnerable children and their families, Haven House has launched an urgent appeal.
