At its meeting on 15th November Enfield Council's Cabinet agreed to continue negotiations with Metaswitch Networks about the possible construction of a new headquarters building for the IT firm on the land currently occupied by the Genotin Road car park in Enfield Town. Mayor sets out proposals for a shift towards active travel

The draft London Plan, which will be released later this week, will include measures to encourage cycling and walking while discouraging driving. The proposals are aligned with the draft Mayor's Transport Strategy, which envisages increasing the proportion of trips in London made on foot, by cycle or using public transport to 80 per cent by 2041, compared to 64 per cent now, meaning an average of three million fewer car journeys in London each day. Street trading proposals consultation

The Council is seeking views on reviewing the current street trading policy. Street trading can cover tables and chairs and the display of goods on the pavement. Currently, the policy only permits street trading licences for tables and chairs on the pavement outside restaurants, cafes and pubs in certain designated streets, and the sale of goods from seasonal and farmers markets and the sale of goods from a small number of very longstanding stalls.

New Edmonton incinerator gets government approval

Business and energy secretary Greg Clark has given the go-ahead to a new energy-from-waste plant at the Edmonton EcoPark. The plans were approved following an examination by the Planning Inspectorate which began in February 2016. Converting offices into flats: More housing, yes, but what about jobs?

The onward march of developers converting office buildings into flats continues. Local examples include the distinctive curved office "Black Horse" block near Cockfosters Station. More recently there has been an application concernging the Office Village in Southgate (behind the White Hart in Chase Road) and now a property company is planning to covert the large block in Green Lanes, Winchmore Hill - Capitol House, which was originally built to accommodate civil servants.

Southgate District Civic Trust have drawn attention to an application for planning permission to develop the site of the former Thomas Lipton Memorial Hostel. The Lipton Memorial Hostel occupied a mansion, Osidge, built in 1808 and later the home of tea and groceries magnate Thomas Lipton.  Lipton died in 1931, bequeathing his house to the Queen's Nursing Association.  At its opening in 1935 it provided accommodation for 14 retired nurses.  Additional buildings were later added,.......

Trent Park owners respond to petition
