Campaigning group Better Streets for Enfield are holding a public online meeting at 8pm on Tuesday 19th November under the title 'Is Twenty Plenty in Enfield?'' to discuss the case for a 20mph limit on most Enfield roads.

Construction work on the initial phase of the Enfield Town Liveable Neighbourhood scheme is due to begin this week. Phase 1 will bring improvements for pedestrians in the western part of the borough's main town centre, in particular making it easier and safer to access the Library Green and Town Park on foot from Church Street. A new public square will be created near the post office.

Enfield Council's 'Liveable Neighbourhoods' project for improvements to the public realm in Enfield Town has already progressed through four stages of public engagement since 2019, designed to find out people's views and improve the design. Funding is now in place for phase 1 - covering the north western corner of the scheme - and the statutory consultation period has begun, running until 3rd March.

Enfield Council is inviting people to apply to be members of a group being set up to ensure that the views of deaf and disabled people are heard throughout the design phases of projects designed to enable and encourage people to use environmentally sustainable means to make daily journeys, such as school streets, quieter neighbourhoods and walking and cycling routes.

It's great to see the Fox full of life, surrounded by flowers and its customers spilling out onto the pavement, but the current design of the public realm on the corner of Green Lanes and Fox Lane is proving problematical for pedestrians, and in particular for anyone who needs enough clearance to get through in a wheelchair, mobility scooter or pushing a big baby buggy.

Enfield Council's Journeys & Places team has published more information and extended the deadline for submitting comments on its proposals for the Old Park Road to Pymmes Park Walking and Cyling Route. The new deadline is midnight on Sunday 18th June. An online event will be held on Wednesday 14 June at 6pm.

Enfield Council's Journeys & Places team is seeking community input into early work on the design of an active travel (walking and cycling) route between Palmers Green, Arnos Grove and New Southgate stations. Residents are being invited to contribute by adding annotated pins to an interactive online map of a suggested route designed to use mainly quiet streets. The deadline for responding via the map is 7th May.

Enfield Council's recently announced plans for a new cycling and walking route will mean that the important shopping, travel and employment hub at Southgate Circus will for the first time be safely accessible by bike from the Fox Lane LTN and Palmers Green. However, continuing the route east of PG to the Cambridge Roundabout will require bold measures to make Hazelwood Lane safe for cycling.

Enfield Council is seeking residents' views on two projects within the Bowes Primary quieter neighbourhood. One will create a walking and cycling route between the two low-traffic neighbourhoods on either side of Brownlow Road; the other involves creating 'a space for people to enjoy' at the junction of Maidstone Road and Warwick Road.

Enfield Council has published an updated version of the Enfield Town Improvement Plan, which it hopes to carry out in 2024, depending on the outcome of statutory consultation in 2023. A new phase of public engagement is now under way between now and 25th September, seeking views on how well the plan meets the design principles, asking for ideas about a proposed sensory garden, and including a competition for the best suggested name of a new public square. The changes are designed to make Enfield Town more people-friendly, bustling and vibrant and to reduce car use through improvements to arrangements for walking, cycling and using public transport.

Enfield Council's Healthy Streets Team are inviting residents to two community drop-in sessions and a Microsoft Teams webinar to discuss their plans for a new walking and cycling route between Enfield Town and the boundary with Broxbourne Borough adjacent to Capel Manor and the M25. Broxbourne Council is planning to continue the route further north.

Transport for London's parlous financial situation, brought on by a pandemic-induced catastrophic fall off in fares revenue, not only threatens big cuts to tube and bus services . Unless an adequate long-term solution is found, in place of the grudgingly given six-month government gap-plugging deals, the outcome will be even worse congestion on the roads than we are already experiencing, and other impacts affecting not just London.
