For the fourth event in this year's Here Suburban Film Festival Talkies Community Cinema is setting up its screen at Chickenshed. If the first Here night celebrated a "boy from suburbia" (David Bowie), on Saturday 16th April it will be the turn of a famous girl from a bit of suburbia that's even closer to home.

An award-winning romantic comedy, in which more than half of the footage was filmed in and around Palmers Green, is now available to view online.
Dead Cat, released in 2013 and a winner of awards in the UK, USA and Cyprus, was written by two local lads, Sam Bern (Sam Bourke) and Stefan Georgiou. Talkies is a not-for-profit, volunteer-led society which gets no regular funding or subsidy. Through the generous support of Friends of Talkies, together with other fund-raising and ticket sales, in 2015 we were able to:
commission young film makers to create short films based in our area;
run HERE FILM FESTIVAL, which showcases local talent;
buy good quality equipment to improve your cinema experience;
establish two new local groups - one in Bowes Park/Bounds Green and another in Bush.......

Talkies Community Cinema, the Palners Green-based pop-up cinema, has been going from strength to strength. Talkies has been able to keep ticket prices down to £5, but overheads have been rising steadily and Talkies has now set up a scheme called Friends of Talkies. By becoming a Friend, you will be able to help maintain the cheap tickets policy while taking advantage of special benefits, such as priority booking for popular shows.

Talkies Community Cinema rounds off its Autumn season on 10th December with Downhill, a humorous but touching look at men's mid-life crises, starring local actor Jeremy Swift.
Jeremy is well know to viewers of Downton Abbey, in which he plays Maggie Smith's butler, Spratt. And he is currently rehearsing for a major role in an amazing production of the Railway Children at King’s Cross Station (featuring a proper steam train!)

Talkies - the pop-up cinema with a difference - is expanding its reach to take in Winchmore Hill and is looking for volunteers in N21 to help choose films and find venues.
Talkies Community Cinema showed its first film two years ago this month and has been attracting large audiences ever since. Its events in Palmers Green (at the Fox, Baskervilles and the Intimate) and in Southgate (at St Monica's Parish Centre and at Christ Church) have frequently sold out. it has also been showing.......

The next Talkies Community Cinema event at the Fox is an evening of short comedy films on 29th January.
Wizards, mime artists, baristas and estate agents are among the comic delights contained in the ten short films making up Ha! Comedy Shorts.
Organised by Kate and Gem from Short Sighted Cinema, the evening will bring London's short film glitterati to Palmers Green, where the audience will have an opportunity to talk to them about their work.

Palmers Green's own community cinema, Talkies, is now in its second year. The enterprising venture was launched by David Williamson in October 2012 with a screening of A Man of No Ambition, a film about notable Palmers Green resident Ralph Hutchings. Fourteen months and 21 events later, Talkies will end its 2013 season with a Palmers Green double bill at the Fox on 11th December.
