Patrick Samuel - one of the artists involved in Enfield's bid for cultural recognition An exhibition of work by Palmers Green artist Patrick Samuel will launch Enfield Council's bid for the borough to become a "London Borough of Culture". Talkies volunteer Kate Braithwaite will be among the friendly faces welcoming you to the Little Shed of HorrorsWondering what to do with your little horrors at Halloween to keep them away from trick and treat mischief?  If they're 11 or older you can treat them to a trip to a Little Shed of Horrors where they (and you) can hear some live (well, undead) music, focus on some fright-inducing faces and marvel at a monstrous movie. The next film in Talkies' 2017 HERE Film Festival was made by a local director, Bruce Goodison, who will be at the screening at the Fox on 5th April to introduce and answer questions.  Leave to Remain, Bruce's first feature film,  was selected for the London Film Festival and has won seven awards around the globe. Talkies Community Cinema has never been known to rest on its laurels.  This month the locally based "pop-up" cinema will be launching its third HERE film festival with a special event featuring for the first time a live orchestra.  The film in question is of great historical importance and was itself a groundbreaking achievement when it was first shown just over a hundred years ago. Talkies' screening of The Battle of the Somme on 22nd March at Heartlands High School will form part.......

Ousmane Sembène, the Father of African Cinema

Ousmane Sembène, the father of African cinema, is one of the key directors of the 20th century and yet his works - still relevant today - remain unknown to many.  The Sembène season at the Bernie Grant Centre will help plug this gap in public knowledge. Sembène, born in Senegal in 1923, was both a film director and a writer, whose novels were written in French.  His directorial career ran from 1963 until 2004 and his final film addressed the subject of female genital.......

David Hinitt improvising accompaniment to Metropolis at Christ Church in 2015 Following on from the roaring success in 2014 and 2015 of silent films at Christ Church Southgate set to live organ music, this year Talkies Community Cinema brings you silent comedy from one of the all time greats – Buster Keaton – with live organ music from Christ Church’s very own David Hinitt and Adam Dickson. Buster's Shorts will be shown at Christ Church at 7.30pm on Saturday 15th October........
