Talkies Community Cinema, the Palners Green-based pop-up cinema, has been going from strength to strength. Talkies has been able to keep ticket prices down to £5, but overheads have been rising steadily and Talkies has now set up a scheme called Friends of Talkies. By becoming a Friend, you will be able to help maintain the cheap tickets policy while taking advantage of special benefits, such as priority booking for popular shows.
Tricia Sharpe will be looking after Friends of Talkies. She explains the reasoning behind the new arrangement:
"Talkies is a not-for-profit volunteer-led society which aims to bring communities together through cinema events. Nobody involved in running Talkies gets any pay and we all pay for our own tickets! Talkies gets no regular funding or subsidy.
"Since we started in 2013, our aim has been to maintain low ticket prices so we are accessible to everyone - and we have kept the books balanced. But, our core costs are increasing – estimated at around £1500 in 2015 to cover things like insurances, web hosting, membership of national film bodies etc. We hope that ‘Friends of Talkies’ will provide us with the cushion we need to continue to keep ticket prices low so anyone can come to our events.

How do I become a Friend of Talkies?

- All funds go towards the running of Talkies, helping to keep prices low and enabling us to remain sustainable. Your support will ensure we continue to bring you great events.

- DOUBLE £20 (2 people at the same address): This registration gives you priority booking in advance of public sales, two invitations to 'Friends' events and two entries each season to the 'Talkies Draw'.
