An award-winning romantic comedy, in which more than half of the footage was filmed in and around Palmers Green, is now available to view online.

dead cat posterDead Cat, released in 2013 and a winner of awards in the UK, USA and Cyprus, was written by two local lads, Sam Bern (Sam Bourke) and Stefan Georgiou.  Stefan directed the film, in which Sam plays a character called "Sam".  Sam started his education at Hazelwood School and then went to Ashmole, where he met Stefan.  They have been collaborating since their early teens.

Sam Bern and Stefan GeorgiouThe story follows Michael and Kristen, who were childhood sweethearts, but haven't spoken in ten years. Thrown back together as they both begin their thirties, is there still anything between them? With nothing but a gang of dysfunctional friends as allies will they discover if this second chance is love or just nostalgia?

The soundtrack features some of the best of British new music, including Dry The River, Sound of Guns and Chad Valley, while cast members include Tom Mison (Sleepy Hollow, One Day) and Johnny Palmeiro (Bonded by Blood, The Kid).

As befits a locally made film, Dead Cat was screened by Talkies Community Cinema at the end of 2013, with the co-writers on hand to answer questions from the audience.  It's now available online through Vimeo On Demand.  You can rent it for one week for £2.50 or buy it for £6, which will allow you to stream it or download it at any time.

While we admire and support the Christmas campaigns that we see pop up in December, we also know that help is urgently needed all year round, each and every year. As some people pack away after the festive break, we are still here.

Our support is not limited to a food package, but it leaps beyond - we form connections, we listen and respond to everyone who steps through our doors. We open up a warm, safe, environment which aims to feel like a home away from home.

For us to continue to thrive and grow, and keep supporting as many people as possible, we are asking you to become a Friend of Cooking Champions. Even a donation of just £5-10 per month can make a HUGE impact on the lives of those who come through our doors.

Pop to our People's Fundraising page to donate, and we promise to keep you updated with how your support is making a difference. Thank you, we appreciate you! Team Cooking Champions
