Six months ago PGC called on readers to help the Palmers Green Action Team and Arthouse Cinema's campaign to persuade landlords of large empty properties in PG to agree to let one to be used as a multiscreen cinema and community hub. Those efforts have come to nothing, but the ambition of bringing a picturehouse to PG has not been abandoned.

On Saturday Enfield Town's Culture Palace (located inside the Palace Gardens shopping centre) will be hosting a grand celebration of the stories of some of our borough's many communities. Stories of Enfield Celebration Day will consist of activities for people of all ages run by eight of the 13 community organisations who were awarded lottery funding to run projects under the banner of Stories of Enfield.

Only three days after its launch, a petition designed to convince landlords of popular demand for a cinema and arts hub in Palmers Green is well on its way to accumulating 2500 signatures. Started by the Palmers Green Action Team, it expresses the frustration felt by the team's members and by a potential cinema operator at the unwillingness of landlords who own suitable properties in PG to lease them out.

On Saturday 13th November Talkies Community Cinema presents its first indoor screening for 19 months, restarting where it left off by presenting the six short films that won its 2020 commissions and were due to be shown on 21st March 2020.

Sustainable cinema comes to Enfield at the end of the month, when Stow Film Lounge sets up its projectors in three outdoor venues to bring us a timeless Hollywood blockbuster, a classic London comedy and a thoroughly modern British comedy drama. There'll be discounts for people arriving by bike or other environmentallly friendly means.

Yet another first for Talkies Community Cinema! They're teaming up with the Friends of Broomfield Park to put on another spectacular show in the park, but unlike in August, when rain stopped play, this time they'll be under cover, as for the first time they show a film in a tent - a very big tent, with room for social distancing.

Talkies - your local community cinema - launches its HERE Suburban Film Festival' on Friday 22 February with a Mike Leigh film shot in Enfield during Thatcher's Britain and continues through March with a feast of suburban stories. Talkies is also very proud to premiere six new short films from rising stars of the film world, commissioned by Talkies for the festival, using locations in our area of North London. The festival closes on Talkies' 200th event milestone with the classic 'Blues Brothers' with live music intro.

The 2019 HERE film festival ended on Saturday night with a sell-out audience filling St John's Hall in Bourne Hill for the premiere of this year's Talkies commissions. The process for selecting film makers for the 2020 festival starts in the summer.
