It is Refugee Week from 17-23 June, and there are seven 'simple acts' to raise awareness of the refugee experience. Enfield Council has unveiled a £100,000 package of measures designed to tackle a big increase in the level of youth violence in the borough in recent months. Planned activities will include football, boxing, horticulture and cookery sessions but will also give youth workers an increased opportunity to do more work with young people to reinforce positive messages and behaviour.

Working with young offenders is a challenging and moving experience. As part of the Enfield Heroes campaign, Enfield Council is looking for volunteers to help in their rehabilitation. We are looking for more people to get involved, particularly working with youth offenders.
If you have a skill – for example in car engine maintenance, jewellery making, hairdressing, basic IT or gardening – you could really make a difference to a young person’s life.

Everyone's Climbing Tree - described as "magical" by the young people who benefit from its workshops and wonderful encouraging spirit - is working towards raising £10,000 to refurbish and expand its base close to Alexandra Park Station.

Firs Farm: Not long ago this was just a muddy fieldA project to provide play equipment in Firs Farm Park is one of three ideas that are competing to obtain funds from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative.
Tesco teamed up with Groundwork to launch its community funding scheme, which sees grants of £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 – all raised from the 5p bag levy – being awarded to local community projects.

The parent of a child at Oakthorpe Primary School is petitioning Enfield Council to improve pedestrian safety in the vinicity of the school, which is Tile Kiln Lane, near the junction with Chequers Way.
The online petition, on change.org, reads as follows:

The Enfield Young People’s Project (EYPP) is an innovative programme that works with young people to develop self-esteem and build up the skills they need to resist peer pressure, avoid risky situations and make safe and informed choices.
If you are over 18 you can volunteer to support the young people taking part in this rewarding programme.

The Palmers Scream Team have announced the names of the winners of the Spooky Stories Competition - three each from Walker School and Hazelwood School.
The young spooky storytellers's tales of strange happenings were chosen from 200 entries. The judges were impressed by the inventiveness and imagination shown by all children in their stories. They commented: "We never knew our area could be so spooky!"
The prizes will be presented at a ceremony on 20th September.
