It was a day for celebrations in Southgate on Sunday, as people got together to mark the 90th anniversary of the first day of operation of the Piccadilly Line extension from Arnos Grove to Oakwood, and in particular the opening of Southgate Station. Naturally, there was a birthday cake, created by local shop Wiltons.

Following a two-day journey on a low-loader along the M6 and M1, on the last day of January the two halves of a modular building were lowered into position on a disused car park just off Firs Lane. The Friends of Firs Farm's dream, going back to 2015, was finally coming true: a community hub offering a cafe, toilets and meeting rooms in the borderlands between Winchmore Hill, Edmonton and Palmers Green.

Visitors will be invited into brilliant spaces and shops on Fore Street for some creative, entertaining and thought-provoking experiences. Local campaigners have notified Enfield Council that in their view the planned leasing of a large part of Whitewebbs Park to Tottenham Hotspur Football Club is unlawful. They have warned both the council and the football club that they intend to enforce the rights of the public to make use of the land for recreation and will take legal action if necessary.

Mayfield Tennis Club has a wonderful record of supporting wheelchair, disabled and senior players and of raising money for charity. But now it needs to raise funds for itseelf, to replace its courts. A crowdfunder is being used and offers some excellent rewards provided by local businesses and members.

Sixty years ago a society was set up with the aim of preventing the demolition of some Georgian houses on Southgate Green. Houses and society are both still in existence, and a specially commissioned artisan gin, named after a famous local tree, has been created to celebrate the anniversary.

Only three days after its launch, a petition designed to convince landlords of popular demand for a cinema and arts hub in Palmers Green is well on its way to accumulating 2500 signatures. Started by the Palmers Green Action Team, it expresses the frustration felt by the team's members and by a potential cinema operator at the unwillingness of landlords who own suitable properties in PG to lease them out.
