Talkies - your local community cinema - launches its HERE Suburban Film Festival' on Saturday 22 February with a Mike Leigh film shot in Enfield during Thatcher's Britain and continues through March with a feast of suburban stories. Talkies is also very proud to premiere six new short films from rising stars of the film world, commissioned by Talkies for the festival, using locations in our area of North London. The festival closes on Talkies' 200th event milestone with the classic 'Blues Brothers' with live music intro.

here film festival 2020

HERE SUBURBAN FILM FESTIVAL is about the diversity of interests, people and places in the suburbs of London. HERE is not in the West End, Southbank or Shoreditch. HERE in the suburbs we aren’t the swanky super-rich, the celebrity glitterati or cool dudes. HERE is where the cinema creatives of London produce their best output. HERE is where life is a rich diversity of race, religion and culture. HERE is  where most of London lives.

The festival programme includes feature  films that are mainly small independent British productions that have a connection with suburbia. HERE we draw on local talent and themes and we are also very proud to premiere six new short films commissioned for the festival.

Our festival finale in 2020 celebrates our 200th event and so we are re-showing one of our first – The Blues Brothers – with a musical intro from talented local musicians from St Harmonicas Blues Club.
