Palmers Green organisations were again among the proud recipients of Gold awards at this year's Enfield in Bloom ceremony, held this year at Chickenshed in Southgate. They went to two Friends of Broomfield Park projects - the Conservatory and the Wildlife Pond, to Anthony Webb estate agents in Green Lanes, and to Tottenhall Infant School.

Enfield Council's new proposals for Broomfield House and Broomfield Park

Enfield Council has now shared a document with the Broomfield House Trust and the Friends of Broomfield Park which outlines the scope of a bid to the National Lottery Heritage Fund for funding new proposals for Broomfield House and Park.

Help Friends of Firs Farm get their community hub funding dash over the finish line

How parks can heat homes and other buildings

The environmental charity Possible is inviting supporters to contact their local council and ask them to investigate the feasibility of using the ambient heat present in parks to heat buildings. They quote the example of Hackney Council, which is installing heat pumps in open spaces in Stoke Newington to heat a visitor centre and leisure centre.

MP joins call to turn down Oktoberfest licence

Despite Enfield Council's request to the organisers of the London Oktoberfest to withdraw their application to hold a German-themed beer festival in Broomfield Park, Friends of Broomfield Park and other residents concerned about the planned event are calling on residents to continue to submit their own objections to the licensing committee. Among those who have done so recently is Enfield Southgate MP Bambos Charalambous, who has published his letter to the committee.

Enfield Council has asked the organisers of a German-themed beer festival due to be held in Broomfield Park to withdraw their application for a licence for the event. In a letter to residents a Palmers Green councillor says she is 'confident' that the event will not go ahead.

A festival too far?

Over three days in October up to 8000 people from all over London are due to be flocking to Palmers Green, attracted by an opportunity to 'loosen up their lederhosen' and enjoy three days of bratwurst, oompah bands and axe throwing, all washed down with German beer served by dirndl-clad waitresses. The council, it seems, gave the green light to the organisers of the London Oktoberfest some three months ago, but local people were unaware of it until very recently. How does this fit in with the 'partnership approach' to events in the park that the council signed up to after the 4 Not 24 campaign in 2018?

Broomfield Summer Festival runs from June to September, using the 'Broomfield Bowl' - a former bowling green repurposed for live outdoor events.

Broomfield Park netball and tennis court refurbishment completed
