broomfield summer festival 2022 portrait 450pxThe Friends of Broomfield Park are creating another summer to remember with a kaleidoscope of events featuring music, theatre, family events, a food festival and much more – something for everyone.

Broomfield Summer Festival runs from June to September, using the ‘Broomfield Bowl’ - a former bowling green repurposed for live outdoor events.

In 2021 we held our first ambitious summer-long festival and this year we build on that experience with another great programme.

Last year we had great successes with music events. Paul Dengle, who organises Livestock Festival in Forty Hall, is also running a series of must-see acts from cover-bands Foo Fighterz, Reggae Matic, Vipers and Britpop Boys. St Harmonica’s Blues Club returns with its regular Sunday afternoon performances in August.

We have a growing reputation as a venue for national touring theatre groups and in 2022 they will bring lots of fun family fun with The Gunpowder Plot, Awful Auntie and Wind in the Willows. Our local Chickenshed Theatre is performing a summer panto, Cinderella in Boots, which promises a mad adventure. For a grown up audiences not-to-miss events include Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Shakespeare’s comedy Twelfth Night and Gilbert and Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance.

Local performing arts school Centre Stage also feature in the programme. Principal Carole O’Shea says "last year we had our first outdoor events at Broomfield Bowl and we are delighted to return this summer.”

In June, Clare Donovan and her Cooking Champions are holding a midsummer feast in the Broomfield Orchard and a delicious food festival featuring lots of local suppliers.

The Ghana festival in Trent park attracts thousands of people, but organiser Dennis Tawiah saw another great opportunity in the Broomfield Summer Festival. "Our big events are great but we would also like to do something more intimate, with smaller groups and with a strong community feel and Broomfield Bowl is an ideal place to try out this new approach."

The Broomfield Summer festival is packed with new events and annual traditions such as Cogger’s and Bidall’s fun fairs and Zippos Circus. Lots to enjoy whatever your tastes. See the whole programme at  www.fobp.events.

While we admire and support the Christmas campaigns that we see pop up in December, we also know that help is urgently needed all year round, each and every year. As some people pack away after the festive break, we are still here.

Our support is not limited to a food package, but it leaps beyond - we form connections, we listen and respond to everyone who steps through our doors. We open up a warm, safe, environment which aims to feel like a home away from home.

For us to continue to thrive and grow, and keep supporting as many people as possible, we are asking you to become a Friend of Cooking Champions. Even a donation of just £5-10 per month can make a HUGE impact on the lives of those who come through our doors.

Pop to our People's Fundraising page to donate, and we promise to keep you updated with how your support is making a difference. Thank you, we appreciate you! Team Cooking Champions
