As Cooking Champions celebrate two years of their community kitchen, the Enfield-based charity has launched a winter fundraising appeal aimed at raising £10,000 to support its work feeding the hungry and helping people in the borough prepare their own affordable nutritious meals.

Return of a much missed Bowes Park venue

The announcement of two events scheduled for 23rd and 24th July at 101 Myddleton Road signals the reopening of a popular local cafe/bar after it was purchased by the community. The former Step, now rechristened Hillbilly Social at 101, will play host on Tuesday to Bowes Park Folk Club and on Wednesday to Homebrew Poetry.

Top-up Truck (a converted milk float) will be calling at Devonshire Square every Friday afternoon, bringing a large range of package-free food and other household consumables to Palmers Green. And for refills five days a week, don't forget that just up the railway line, a couple of minutes walk from Grange Park station, there is a shop with a very large range of unpackaged items, Refill at the Grange.

Off to market with the Family Bike Club

As has been the case on second Sundays for a good few years, on 14th May the Food Gatherer will be running a farmers' market at Forty Hall Farm. But a novelty this month will be a new climate-friendly and family-friendly way of getting there. The Family Bike Club is organising a ride up to Forty Hall from their base next to Enfield Chase Station, using a quiet low-traffic route and led by a highly experienced cycling instructor and cycle ride marshal.

After three bad harvests in a row, caused by disease and poor weather, the award-winning and previously successful Forty Hall Vineyard is in trouble and has launched a fundraising appeal. It 'cannot survive another year without monetary support' and needs to raise £85,000 to pay for equipment and resources to protect its vines from disease.
