Palmers Greenery Community Café: More helpers needed

Hazelwood Rec to get money for multi-use games area

A new multi-use games area will be installed at an Palmers Green park after the council successfully bid for £45,000 from the London Marathon Charitable Trust. The improvements to Hazelwood Recreation Ground off Hedge Lane, will significantly improve the current five a side grass football pitch and tarmac basketball area, be free to use all year round and will tackle problems with waterlogging on the football pitch in the winter. Help find a new home for some well loved old railings

Friends of Broomfield Park are hoping to find a new home for the decorative railings that until not long ago adorned the entrances to the subterranean Ladies and Gentlemen's toilets at Palmers Green Triangle. The planned new location is in front of the beautiful restored Conservatory in Broomfield Park, replacing the functional, but not exactly pretty, chainlink fence that currently protects the vulnerable building from vandals.  A suitable design has been devised, but more money is.......

Firs Farm transformation project shortlisted for the Big Green Fund

A project to create an attractive wetlands habitat from a previously underused green space has been shortlisted for support from the Mayor of London's Big Green Fund. Firs Farm, the open space to the south of Firs Lane on the Winchmore Hill/Edmonton border, has up to now  been associated mainly with football pitches and dog walking (though earlier in its history it was used as a shelter for prisoners of war).  However, its transformation is already under way, thanks to collaboration.......

Enfield Council's plan to leave parks unlocked overnight will be discussed by the Overview and Scrutiny Committee on Wednesday.  The meeting will be held in the Civic Centre at 7.30pm on 29th October. Bid for money to restore Broomfield Park Garden of Remembrance

In the centenary year of the outbreak of World War One, the Friends of Broomfield Park are hoping that money will be made available for the restoration of the Park's Garden of Remembrance, which has fallen into serious disrepair. Ahead of their quarterly open meeting next week, the Friends of Broomfield Park are celebrating their favourite green space's two Gold awards in this year's Enfield in Bloom competition. The centenary of the outbreak of World War One was commemorated by Enfield Council at a ceremony held in Broomfield Park on Monday 4th August. The sun came out for the special Love Parks Week events in Broomfield Park last Sunday, and so did the people. In Broomfield Conservatory, Marc Harris played and sang while visitors admired the Angels' Trumpets and many other plants. In the Community Orchard, there were apple cakes, apple wine, country dancing and "Celtic Folk Americana" played live. At the Bandstand, Bowes Park Folk Club gave their first event north of the North Circ. On the former Bowling Green, people were able to play.......

Conservatory hosts photo exhibition

The beautiful Broomfield Conservatory is at its best in this sunny weather.  Both visitors and the conservatory's collection of exotic plants are enjoying the light and warmth, and currently there's an extra treat for visitors - an exhibition of photographs submitted to the Friends of Broomfield Park's second annual photocompetition. The Friends' committee members have, with great difficulty, shortlisted eleven of the 85 entries to the competition, printed them out and put them on display.......

Help create a new hedgerow!

Next weekend there is a rare opportunity to help create a new hedgerow of native plants in the rural depths of Palmers Green - to be precise, in Broomfield Park alongside Aldermans Hill and Powys Lane. The work is being carried out by volunteers from the Friends of Broomfield Park, who have been given 420 "whips" - young bareroot saplings - by the Woodland Trust.  The volunteers will be planting eight types of tree - Elder, Hazel, Blackthorn, Dog Rose, Crab Apple, Birch, Rowan and Oak.
