To the 'huge disappointment' of the Theatres Trust, Enfield's planning committee last night gave the go-ahead for St Monica's church to demolish the Intimate Theatre. In a statement issued to the press today, the statutory body called the building in Green Lanes 'a rare example of a repertory theatre design from the inter-war period with a rich cultural history that cannot be replaced'.

Enfield's planning committee yesterday voted to defer approval of the application to demolish the Intimate Theatre to make place for a new parish centre. This represents a change of mind from November 2020, when the same committee approved an almost identical planning application.

Enfield's planning committee tonight voted to approve the plan to demolish St Monica's Large Hall (aka the Intimate Theatre) to make way for a new parish centre for the adjoining church plus six two-bed flats. There were seven votes for, one against and four absentions.

Catholic churches belonging to the Enfield Deanery are asking parishioners to write to MPs and councillors complaining about Enfield Council's decision to register St Monica's Large Hall/Intimate Theatre as an Asset of Community Value (ACV). The reaction of the Save the Intimate Theatre campaign has been to express hope that the letters to elected representatives might provide a 'longed for opportunity' for a meeting to take place with all interested parties present.

On Sunday afternoon the curtain came down on Snow White and, if its owners have their way, also on the Intimate Theatre. Fittingly, the theatrical company putting on the final show at the Intimate was St Monica's Players, named after St Monica's church, which owns the property, and the group which is most associated with the campaign to prevent demolition of this historic Palmers Green landmark.
