photo of intimate theatre in palmers greenThe future of the Intimate Theatre will be discussed by Enfield's planning committee for the third time next week. A slightly revised application designed to satisfy demands for a theatre-type facility in the replacement building is on the agenda for the committee's meeting on Tuesday 8th March

As before, the planning application envisages demolishing the former theatre and replacing it by a new parish centre for St Monica's Church and six two-bed flats. However, the application now makes provision for a demountable stage with lighting and storage space for the stage and indicates how an audience of 156 people could be accommodated.

The revisions are designed to satisfy a requirement set out by the planning committee when it last considered the application, on 18th January. On that occasion the committee decided to refer the application back to St Monica's with a request that the church explore whether the "explicit use of theatre performance can be retained” by including provision for a moveable stage.

Council planning officers are recommending that the application be approved.
