Following preliminary soundings last month, Thames 21 and Enfield Council will be presenting more detailed proposals for a wetlands scheme in Broomfield Park. Consultation events will be held in the Park on 27th July and 12th August, followed by an online consultation.

One of many projects run by the Friends of Broomfield Park is beekeeping. The hives are tucked away in a corner of Broomfield Community Orchard. Jenny Bourke and Susan Mehmet of Palmers Green Tales recently visited the Broomfield hives and shot a short film about what beekeeping involves.

The latest Palmers Green Tales video looks at the activities of volunteers in Broomfield Conservatory - how they tend to the collection of subtropical plants, open it up to the public twice a week and run special events such as plant sales and activities for children.

Broomfield Park's community café- the Palmers Greenery - has had another successful year and is inviting groups and individuals to bid for a share of its profits.
The Greenery is a "community café" in several ways: its cakes are baked and sold by volunteers from the community, it serves a community function by providing refreshments in the park, and it invests its surpluses in community projects. The Friends of Broomfield Park and Enfield Council have recently been successful in securing £64,000 of funding from the War Memorials Trust. As part of the proposed project it is intended to restore the Stained Glass windows that were once set in the back three recesses of the Memorial Temple.

Four months to go before the biggest event in the PG calendar - the Palmers Green Festival. This year the Festival will be back in Broomfield Park on 3rd September.

The Friends of Broomfield Park launch their 2017 season of special events in Broomfield Conservatory this Sunday, starting with a Sketching Workshop. The workshop is suitable for people of all ages and there'll be paper and pencils available, or you can bring your own coloured crayons or pastels. If you need any help, artist Cathy Taylor will be along to advise and assist.

The Remembrance Garden Temple
A campaign by the Friends of Broomfield Park to restore the Park's Remembrance Garden has finally succeeded. Enfield Council notified the Friends this week that the War Memorial Trust has agreed to a grant of £63,270 to the Council. This represents 75 per cent of the total cost - the remainder will be paid by the Council

The banana plant in Broomfield Conservatory has had a big bunch of fruit hanging from it for several months. The bananas have grown steadily larger, but stayed green, until a week or two ago. Now they are begining to ripen, as you can see from this photo.
So get round to the Conservatory while they're still there!
Broomfield Conservatory is maintained by volunteers and is open on Wednesdays and Sundays from 2pm to 4pm........

The winner in the Adult category was Munise Cebesi for entry No 47:
The winner in the Under 16 category was Alize Akturk for a photograph entitled Perspective

Broomfield Community Orchard was awarded Silver for its horticultural contribution to the local community
Broomfield Park has had another triumphant year in the Enfield in Bloom competition, winning Gold for Best Maintained Park. Another Gold went to Broomfield Conservatory for its Exceptional Horticultural Contribution to the Community, while Broomfield Community Orchard was awarded Silver in the same category.

At a special cream tea held in the shade of trees by the boating pond, Friends of Broomfield Park yesterday said goodbye to two good friends who arrived carrying a special green flag.
