Saturday sees the launch of a summer-long series of free events in Edmonton at the newly built Pavilion on the Green. Between now and September the Pavilion will play host to live music featuring styles from the African diaspora, holiday activities for young people, family arts, theatre and dance workshops, wellbeing activities and a whole range of other activities.
The Pavilion on the Green, which is located on the grassy area adjacent to Edmonton Green overground station, was designed by Fisher Cheng Architects incorporating ideas which emerged from a public engagement process. It is a temporary structure intended to be in use for three years.
The Pavilion is designed as an open structure without perimetral walls and consists of a decked area of approximately 40 sqm to host performance and community activities. Its roof is open but has an integrated shading system for use in summer. Lighting and an electrical point are provided, to support a wide range of events at any time of the day.
The launch event on Saturday 29th June runs from 2pm to 6pm. It features the following events
-
Central African Youth in Enfield will use music and storytelling to share the cultural heritage of the Congolese settlement in Edmonton. This is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
- An abstract collage fabric and painting workshop
- A fun confidence boosting dance workshop where you will learn a routine, broken-down step by step.
- Tiger Monkey UK Limited presents a fun afternoon of art for all ages. Help create a giant mural in a day with paper, pens, paint and crayons. Think bright colours, making stuff and sticking things
