A message from the Mayor to EU citizens living in London

The Mayor of London has issued a message to all Londoners on the first anniversary of the UK's leaving the European Union in which he assures EU citizens living in the city that they are valued, respected and loved and that London will continue to be a beacon for progressive ideas, for decency and diversity, continuing to value everyone, regardless of the colour of their skin, passport or national flag. The Mayor has set up an online European Londoners Hub with information and advice about Brexit, obtaining settled status, rights and entitlements, UK citizenship and much more.

Southgate Green councillor Daniel Anderson today became the third Labour member on Enfield Council to leave the party. He joins fellow former Labour councillors Derek Levy (Southgate) and Dinah Barry (Winchmore Hill) in the new Community First group on the council. All three have stated that they remain committed to the Labour values that they were elected on, but can no longer work with council leader Nesil Caliskan.

Prime minister 'riding roughshod' over London's democratically elected representatives

The chair of London Councils and mayor of London have written to the prime minister expressing their 'great surprise' at press reports that the government held a critical planning exercise in which a major resurgence of Covid-19 in London was a central scenario. 'Our surprise is that such far reaching contingency plans have been discussed and tested without the involvement or awareness of London's government. This is clearly totally unacceptable and an affront to London and Londoners'.

Councillors welcome new mayor, but scrutiny changes provoke dissent

Enfield Council's Annual Meeting - the first ever to be held online - saw a council-wide welcome for the appointment of Cllr Sabri Ozaydin as Mayor of Enfield. However, when debate turned to changes to committee structures and scrutiny arrangements there was dissent - not just from Conservatives and the new Community First group, but also from within the controlling Labour Party ranks. There was also disagreement over an increase in the number of councillors who will receive special responsibility allowances.
