Local campaigners calling for the UK to remain in the European Union took advantage of the crowds attending Enfield's Charter Fayre to gauge the feelings of Enfield residents towards this most controversial issue. For their latest Day of Action, members of Enfield for Europe set up their Brexitometer in Church Street, Enfield Town, and asked visitors to the Fayre to use it to show how they thought decisions about Brexit should be made and about the future of EU citizens living here.

There are three councillors for each ward in Enfield. You can therefore vote for three candidates, who don't have to all belong to the same party. Provided they're on the electoral register, non-UK citizens can vote. There's no need to take your voting card or any ID with you.

You don't need to be an expert pollster to forecast that the next administration running Enfield Council will be formed either by Labour or by the Conservatives. But they won't necessarily win all the council seats between them. Both of the two next biggest local parties - Enfield Green Party and Enfield Liberal Democrats - say they are determined to make a dent in the Labour/Conservative domination by winning some seats in this week's elections. Enfield Conservatives were no doubt hoping that a press release that they sent to the Enfield Independent would help them in their bid to recapture control of Enfield Council in Thursday's elections. But I doubt whether they were expecting the amount of publicity that the paper's report and accompanying photograph would bring them - two further reports on the local paper's website, one in the Evening Standard and headlines on the national news website Huffington Post. Members of Enfield for Europe were campaigning at Southgate station this weekend and have sent the following press release.
Pro-European campaigners were out in force in Southgate on Saturday taking part in the national launch of the People’s Vote (#PeoplesVote ; @peoplesvote_uk), a national campaign for another public vote on EU membership, crucially with an option to stay in if any UK-EU deal is worse than our membership terms, which is almost certain to be the case.

In the run up to the council elections on 3rd May two organisations that campaign for a fresh approach to London's streets have come together to set out a challenge for party leaders in each of London's 32 boroughs.
London Living Streets, who seek better streets for pedestrians, are combining forces with the London Cycle Campaign, who, unsurprisingly, would like pleasanter and safer conditions for people riding bikes in London. They are calling their joint campaign My Liveable London and they want boroughs to create more "low traffic neighbourhoods".

Map created by Enfield Southgate Conservatives showing how Enfield Southgate would be divided up between neighbouring constituenciesThere doesn't seem to be much that the two parties on Enfield Council agree on these days, but the Parliamentary Boundary Commission's proposals for changes to Enfield constituencies have proved equally unpopular with both the ruling Labour Group and opposition Conservative Group. Though whether or not they both favour the same alternative is another question........
