Palmers Green residents are being invited by Enfield Council's Journeys and Places team to provide feedback on the recently published concept for a permanent redesign of Devonshire Square. In addition to an online survey running until 2nd June, there will be a public drop-in session at Arbeit Studios on Friday 24th May.
With the deadline approaching, the Enfield Society and Enfield RoadWatch have jointly issued a leaflet informing residents how they can object to elements of the draft Enfield Local Plan that the societies are strongly opposed to: construction on the green belt and tall buildings in town centres.
On Sunday 28th April people young, old and in between will meet up at Silver Street Station for a bike ride exploring Enfield's cycle routes and parks, setting out to have some fun but with a serious message for the next mayor of London.
As of Monday 29th April a school street will be in operation during school arrival and departure times in the section of Highworth Road adjacent to Bowes Primary School. School streets are designed to improve the safety of children and parents when arriving and leaving school by banning cars from a zone near the school during these times.
The long and complex process by which the new Enfield Local Plan is being developed has now moved on to the 'Regulation 19' stage, which provides a final opportunity for members of the public to submit written representations. Understanding the plan and the processes for drawing it up and approving it requires specialist expertise, and both the council and the civil sector societies opposed to elements of the plan are offering advice to residents who wish to be involved.
The 20's Plenty for Us campaign has published its response to recently issued government guidance on setting local speed limits, accusing the Department for Transport of misrepresenting data on pedestrian fatalities when hit by a vehicle travelling at speeds between 20 and 30mph. The 'Plan for Drivers', it says, will discriminate against pedestrians, cyclists, children, the elderly and the disabled.
The final stop on the Southgate Launches itinerary on Saturday 9th March, after admiring Dan Maier's window art at the library and the two new parklets on Ashfield Parade, was the Southgate Club on Chase Side, where visitors were able to meet the designers who will be creating the Portrait of Southgate mosaics, as well as finding out about plans for rain gardens along this currently very ungreen street.
The Fox is due to re-open on Friday 8th March after a closure lasting exactly one week. The new operators run two north London pubs, the Victoria Stakes in Hornsey and the Gipsy Queen in Kentish Town.

Women from Palmers Green were among more than a thousand participants in last Sunday's Women's Freedom Ride, organised by the London Cycling Campaign as part of a campaign calling on the Mayor of London, Metropolitan Police and London boroughs to take stronger measures so that women can cycle on London's road without facing the levels of danger and abuse that they do currently.
