As of Monday 29th April a school street will be in operation during school arrival and departure times in the section of Highworth Road adjacent to Bowes Primary School. A letter with the content below has been sent by Enfield Council's Journeys & Places team to interested parties.

School streets are designed to improve the safety of children and parents when arriving and leaving school by banning cars from a zone near the school. This reduces the likelihood of cars colliding with pedestrians, improves air quality and encourages parents and carers to use environmentally sustainable ways of travelling to and from school.

Bowes Primary School Street will soon be in operation

Date 15 April 2024

map of bowes school streetDear resident, parent or business owner,

We are delighted to announce that the School Street for Bowes Primary will be launching on Monday 29 April 2024. School Streets create safer spaces around schools by reducing vehicle movements near to the school gates. The School Street zone includes Highworth Road between Union Road and the A406. The School Street will be closed between 8.30am to 9.15 am and 3.00pm to 3.45pm from Monday to Friday during term time. The zone is shown on the map overleaf.

The decision to introduce this School Street was made following a period of statutory consultation held in May 2022. We have also further consulted with Transport for London on the operation of the School Street and have received their support. The School Street has now been constructed, and we have been working on the systems to support the project.

The School Street will be enforced using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras. If you drive into the zone during the hours of operation without an exemption you will be issued with a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN).

Some exemptions are available. Exempted vehicles are able to pass through the School Street zone at all times, including during the hours of operation. Exemptions are free and can now be applied for. The table below includes information on who is eligible for an exemption and how to apply. Please note that exemptions are not automatically applied, and eligible residents and businesses should follow the process outlined in order to receive their exemption.
