An outdoor exhibition of portrait photographs taken on benches in Broomfield Park was launched at the weekend.

For the next few weeks, visitors to Broomfield Park will be treated to a free outdoor exhibition, courtesy of local photographer Barbara Luckhurst.

"This is our Seat" consists of fourteen portraits of groups of two or more people making use of one of the park's benches to, in Barbara's words, "turn part of a public space into their own private space for a while".

What Barbara says about the exhibition

"As a photographer interested in how we feel about and use our local green spaces, I took a walk around the park. I saw people sitting on benches together, turning part of a public space into their own private space for the time they were there. Some of them welcomed me in for a photograph and a chat, giving me a glimpse into their lives beyond the park."

What visitors to the exhibition say about it

"Beautiful photographs capturing people from the community.

"The images with their texts build up such a wonderful story of the park and how people use and relate to it".

"Wonderful exhibition. You have captured some ordinary moments in an extraordinary way."

"Delightful and heartwarming."

The photographs, suitably waterproofed, were hung on the railings near the tennis courts on Saturday 22nd March and will remain there for at least three weeks.
