eawa social hub advertA new "social hub" for Enfield residents aged 50 and above is launching soon and the organisers are inviting people to join.

The project is being run by the Enfield Asian Welfare Association (EAWA), but people from all communities will be welcome. Project coordinator Chhaya Tailor explains:

"Our aim is to reach out to isolated and hard to reach people of all communities. We'll be meeting up once a week in Enfield Town and Edmonton Green libraries for refreshments and a bit of socialising and to join in various activities, and then we'll go round the shops together in small groups, stopping off for a coffee or for lunch. It will provide a bit of company instead of people being alone in town centres."

Activities in the libraries will be free and will include chair-based yoga with a professional teacher. But members will have to pay when having coffee or lunch in a cafe.

"Naturally, we'll be conforming to the social distancing rules laid down in the libraries and the groups will need to be quite small.

"We hope that this will help people who've become cut-off from other people to restart their social lives."

If you're interested in joining or just want to find out more, you can contact Chhaya Tailor on 07782 541789 or email her at e

While we admire and support the Christmas campaigns that we see pop up in December, we also know that help is urgently needed all year round, each and every year. As some people pack away after the festive break, we are still here.

Our support is not limited to a food package, but it leaps beyond - we form connections, we listen and respond to everyone who steps through our doors. We open up a warm, safe, environment which aims to feel like a home away from home.

For us to continue to thrive and grow, and keep supporting as many people as possible, we are asking you to become a Friend of Cooking Champions. Even a donation of just £5-10 per month can make a HUGE impact on the lives of those who come through our doors.

Pop to our People's Fundraising page to donate, and we promise to keep you updated with how your support is making a difference. Thank you, we appreciate you! Team Cooking Champions
