Following "mixed" feedback from residents, Enfield Council have removed the "point no entry" scheme in Stonard Road. A review of options for the locality is to be carried out and a new consultation is anticipated before the end of the year.

The point no entry at the junction with Avondale Road, designed to prevent drivers using Stonard Road as an east-west cut-through between Green Lanes and Hoppers Road, was introduced on a trial basis in June 2019 as part of the Fernleigh Road quieter neighbourhood scheme, but was subject to a separate consultation.

Residents who responded to the consultation have received an email from the council's healthy streets programme director, Richard Eason, informing them of the removal of the planter and no entry signs and of the intention to develop alternative proposals (see below)

You will be aware that the temporary 'traffic filter' had been in place for some time on Stonard Road. The purpose of this is to reduce the volume of westbound traffic using Stonard Road as a cut through between Green Lanes and Hoppers Road, avoiding the traffic lights at the Green Lanes / Hedge Lane junction.

The Council has received mixed feedback. Some residents have suggested that better enforcement is needed. Others have highlighted that the scheme has not prevented significant volumes of eastbound traffic using Stonard Road to cut between Hoppers Road and Green Lanes.

The Council has decided to review the scheme and will be undertaking further consultation to help inform the development of revised proposals. This consultation will be launched later in the year. In the meantime, the Council have remove the existing planters and signs and will conduct some further traffic monitoring as part of the review.

Sounds like an holistic approach to addressing high traffic levels is needed in that neighbourhood.
