The ward panel for Highfield ward met on 6th April. Nia Stevens, one of the two councillors representing the ward, has provided a summary of what was discussed (see the box below), while Palmers Green Police tweeted the following invitation:

"Today officers have been to Highfield ward panel meeting. Some great discussion and possible solutions around a variety of subjects with residents and councillors.

"We need some more residents to join this group and attend meetings. Are you interested in coming along to represent your road or block of flats?

"Please have a look at the map to see if your road is within the ward. If you are interested in coming along please email and we will send you some information about the ward panel."

Highlights from the meeting of Highfield ward panel on 6 April 2023

  • Firstly on a positive note, everyone has commented at every one of these meetings we’ve had that Highfield has comparatively low crime figures. Compared to places like Edmonton of course, but also compared with the Green Lanes strip of PG, which gets a lot of shop thefts etc.
  • The small number of crimes in Highfield were mainly residential burglaries and car crime.
  • Speeding is still a big issue, particularly along Connaught Gardens, which continues to be a hotspot for nasty incidents
  • Litter and fly-tipping are persistent issues. Everyone agreed the council are doing everything they can on this but people still keep dumping litter. The Council now offers unlimited (previously restricted to 3 a year) bulky waste collection, so that is a good alternative for any families struggling to dispose of their waste.
  • There was good news that some antisocial behaviour associated with a drug gang in the ward has gone following an eviction to deal with that. The Neighbourhood Police Team and myself and the local MP are continuing to monitor the situation at that location.
  • Local councillors are working to set up a Highfield ward forum in the next couple of months, so that will be an opportunity to discuss these another local topics.

While we admire and support the Christmas campaigns that we see pop up in December, we also know that help is urgently needed all year round, each and every year. As some people pack away after the festive break, we are still here.

Our support is not limited to a food package, but it leaps beyond - we form connections, we listen and respond to everyone who steps through our doors. We open up a warm, safe, environment which aims to feel like a home away from home.

For us to continue to thrive and grow, and keep supporting as many people as possible, we are asking you to become a Friend of Cooking Champions. Even a donation of just £5-10 per month can make a HUGE impact on the lives of those who come through our doors.

Pop to our People's Fundraising page to donate, and we promise to keep you updated with how your support is making a difference. Thank you, we appreciate you! Team Cooking Champions
