More than two thousand Enfield residents have signed a new petition calling on Enfield Council to abandon its plans to reduce the frequency with which 'wheelie bins' are emptied from once a week to once a fortnight. This follows the council's refusal to accept an earlier version of the petition, supported by more than 6000 people, because signatories' addresses were not included.

At its meeting on 13th February Enfield's Cabinet will be discussing proposed changes to waste collection services for households with 'wheelie bins'. If the Cabinet approves the recommended option, Enfield will join the growing list of UK local authorities (82 per cent of all LAs) that no longer collect refuse every week.

London has experienced significant funding cuts
The 2017-18 local government finance settlement confirmed cuts to core funding of 26% in real terms over 3 years. This comes on top of a cumulative cut to core funding of over 50% in real terms since 2010-11, meaning core funding from central government to councils will have fallen by 63% in real terms over the decade to 2019-20.

Following a public consultation earlier this year about proposals to change the charging formula for providing adult social care, Enfield Council has decided not to implement any changes at present. Instead it will "take a longer and more in depth look at how best to ensure fairness in our charging policy and use of resources".

Enfield Council have developed a draft Intermediate Housing Policy that sets out proposals for the eligibility criteria for Intermediate Housing in Enfield, and the mechanism for prioritising applicants for Intermediate Housing.
"Intermediate Housing" refers to homes for sale and rental homes provided at a cost above social rent, but below market levels. These can include shared equity (shared ownership and equity loans), other low cost homes for sale and intermediate rent, but not affordable.......

The umbrella body London Councils is warning that an increasing number of local services are on the critical list due to growing demand from residents and inadequate funding from central Government.
In a submission to Government ahead of the Autumn Budget, London Councils has highlighted the threat that lack of investment poses to under-pressure teams working in housing and children’s services, on top of the risks already exposed in adult social care.

This means all white goods as well as heavy items like a sewing machine or bulky items such as a large vacuum cleaner. If the WEEE item can be easily moved, we ask you take it to a local bring back or Household Waste Recycling Centre.
