brexitometer1Enfield for Europe members campaigning for a People’s Vote were out in force in Southgate on Saturday 29 September as part of a National Day of Action.

brexitometer2They handed out People’s Vote campaign leaflets and ran a ‘Brexitometer’ straw poll outside Southgate tube station from 11am until 2pm to demand the right to a People’s Vote on the final Brexit deal with an ‘option to remain’ if the agreement is unacceptable.

As with previous ‘Brexitometers’ done by the group in Enfield Town, Edmonton Green, Winchmore Hill and Palmers Green, the results indicated that an overwhelming majority of people think ‘Brexit’ talks aren’t going well, that leaving the EU won’t be good for jobs and the NHS and that a chance to revisit the narrow 2016 referendum verdict is needed.

An Enfield for Europe spokesperson said: “’Brexit’ isn’t a done deal. The government is in chaos after botching the Article 50 negotiations, electoral law was breached during the referendum campaign and evidence is emerging daily that leaving the EU will be bad for the economy, jobs and the NHS. We need another vote and a chance to reverse the unsound 2016 referendum result if any deal we get is not as good as the UK’s current terms of EU membership.”

Over 100 local groups, including thousands of activists and supporters, took part in events across the UK. They delivered 1 million leaflets, and ran street stalls in towns and cities the length and breadth of the country, including areas that voted both Remain and Leave.

The People’s Vote National Day of Action followed the hugely successful People’s Vote Summer of Action, in which mass rallies took place in Bristol, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Cambridge and Cardiff. Enfield for Europe will be taking part in the People’s Vote March for the Future in London on Oct. 20. It is set to be the biggest Brexit-related march so far, larger than the previous People’s Vote march attended by over 100,000 people.

While we admire and support the Christmas campaigns that we see pop up in December, we also know that help is urgently needed all year round, each and every year. As some people pack away after the festive break, we are still here.

Our support is not limited to a food package, but it leaps beyond - we form connections, we listen and respond to everyone who steps through our doors. We open up a warm, safe, environment which aims to feel like a home away from home.

For us to continue to thrive and grow, and keep supporting as many people as possible, we are asking you to become a Friend of Cooking Champions. Even a donation of just £5-10 per month can make a HUGE impact on the lives of those who come through our doors.

Pop to our People's Fundraising page to donate, and we promise to keep you updated with how your support is making a difference. Thank you, we appreciate you! Team Cooking Champions
