The consultation period is now under way for the twelve temporary school streets that were instituted in September as part of the Covid Streetscape measures.

The schemes are distributed around the borough, the nearest to Palmers Green being at St Paul's School in Ringwood Way, Winchmore Hill. Residents are invited to comment on all aspects of individual schemes, including whether or not they should be made permanent.

Unlike the two permanent school street schemes set up earlier this year - in Cannon Hill N14 (St Monica's) and Tile Kiln Lane N13 (Oakthorpe School) - these "school streets lite" do not use cameras with automatic number plate recognition, but instead entry to the section of street affected is controlled by school staff or other volunteers. The council haven't said whether their long-term plan is to install cameras. If not, their future may depend on continued availability of volunteers.

No deadline has been published for responses, but it is likely to be six months after the schemes came into force, which would be the first week of March 2021.

If your child's school doesn't have a school street scheme and you think it should have, Mums for Lungs have a page on their website full of advice about how to campaign for one:
