Enfield Council has published the outlines of  a "Masterplan Vision" under development for Southgate town centre to make it greener and healthier and more welcoming and safer for people on foot.

Following on from the programme of improvements to Southgate town centre that is currently nearing completion, Enfield Council's Journeys & Places team have begun to engage with residents and businesses about the development of the "Southgate Masterplan Vision" - a longer-term plan of enhancements to the public realm and transport facilities aimed at encouraging active travel, "improving the everyday experience of Southgate" and creating a "more vibrant, greener and healthier town centre".

A "webinar" (online engagement session) held on Tuesday 19th November provided participants with an informative outline of the council's thinking and included answers to some important questions raised by members of the public during the event.  A recording of the event is now available to watch online.

Two in-person events are also scheduled: one at the Southgate Club on 27th November and the other, a Christmas event on 7th December, with refreshments, songs by Enfield Choral Society, will tour the new pocket park outside Nando's, walk along Chase Side to see the recently completed Rain Gardens Trail and finish at St Andrew's Church, where models of schoolchildrens' vision of an improved Southgate will be exhibited and team members will be available to talk to about the developing vision.

Up to the end of the engagement period on 15th December the public will be able to view information about the initial ideas online and provide feedback via an online survey.

Looks great. Big improvement. The question mark over necessity will remain though. Especially when you consider the investment in PG compared to other local high streets like Southgate which is in a shocking state. [Taken from Darren's comment in the Devonshire Square update discussion]

The council have been working on developing a master plan for improvements to Southgate town centre, see my report dated 20th November:
