A 12-week consultation has begun giving residents an opportunity to give their views on proposals for cycle lanes along the A1010 between Ponders End and Freezy Water. Meanwhile, Enfield's Cabinet will this week be asked to approve the start of detailed design work for the southern section of the A1010.
A1010 North Consultation
Drawings of the proposals for the Ponders End - Freezy Water section are available online. It is possible to give your views using the Citizen Space online consultation. Alternatively, you can request a paper form by going to cycleenfield.co.uk/major-projects/a1010-north-scheme-consultation and clicking on the black area - a form for filling in your address details will then be revealed.
A1010 South consultation feedback
The A1010 South Scheme will be discussed at this week's Cabinet meeting (7pm on Thursday 7th July at the Civic Centre). The Cabinet will be invited to give their approval "to undertake detailed design and statutory consultation for segregated cycling facilities and public realm improvements along the A1010 South (Lincoln Road to Fairfield Road)".
The full set of paperwork to be considered by the Cabinet is available at this link. It includes a report on the public consultation held between November 2015 and March 2016, summarising the points raised, the council's responses to these points and any consequent changes to the proposals.
The other documents include an air quality assessment, economic impact assessment, traffic modelling report and comments of "critical friends".
377 people responded to the consultation and in addition the council carried out street interviews of a further 872 people along the A1010 and nearby streets.
Of the 377 consultation respondees, 170 were in favour of the scheme overall, 21 approved partially and 178 opposed it. There was a very marked difference between the responses of people under 60 (53% in favour, 42% against) and people aged 60 or above (23% in favour, 71% opposed).
Edmonton Green roundabout to be retained
Respondees to the A1010 South consultation were asked their preference between retaining the large roundabout at Edmonton Green or replacing it with a signalised junction. Though the signalised junction option was favoured by supporters of the cycle lanes scheme, the council has decided to retain the roundabout, as it turned out that the alternative option would have cost in the region of an additional £1 million to implement.
Enfield Town and Southbury Road schemes put back
The council has stated that its intention is for the cycle lanes along the A1010 to be the second to be built, following on from the A105 scheme (those that is, of course, currently subject to judicial review). This represents a change from the originally planned sequence - Enfield Town was to have been next. It seems likely that the consultations on the Enfield Town and Southbury Road schemes have brought to light problems that require some more major revisions.
The paperwork for other items on the agenda for Thursday's Cabinet meeting are available at this link.
