While we admire and support the Christmas campaigns that we see pop up in December, we also know that help is urgently needed all year round, each and every year. As some people pack away after the festive break, we are still here.
Our support is not limited to a food package, but it leaps beyond - we form connections, we listen and respond to everyone who steps through our doors. We open up a warm, safe, environment which aims to feel like a home away from home.
For us to continue to thrive and grow, and keep supporting as many people as possible, we are asking you to become a Friend of Cooking Champions. Even a donation of just £5-10 per month can make a HUGE impact on the lives of those who come through our doors.
Pop to our People's Fundraising page to donate, and we promise to keep you updated with how your support is making a difference. Thank you, we appreciate you! Team Cooking Champions

"Fun, Freedom and Play" is the motto for a pilot project aimed at giving back to children some of their lost freedom which launches this month in Palmers Green.
Palmers Green Play Quarter will run until May 2017 and its organisers are seeking help and advice from residents and business owners to make sure it gets off to a good start.
The charity behind the scheme, Play London, has appointed a part-time project worker, Catherine Nicholson, to get the ball rolling (both figuratively and.......
If you're planning to send charity Christmas cards this year, be careful where you buy them from! If you purchase them from a well-known High Street name, the chances are that most of the money you spend will go to the retailer, not to the charity. Very few shops pass on more than 25 per cent of the selling price to the named charity, and the average figure is actually closer to 10 per cent.
The alternative is to buy from a pop-up charity Christmas card shop run by Cards for Good.......
The owners of Osidge (previously the site of the Thomas Lipton Memorial Home) have submitted a new planning application which they hope will overcome the criticisms of the previous application that were made by Barnet Council planning officers:
“Demolition of 3 no. existing buildings and conversion of Osidge House to Class C3 residential use providing 16 no. self-contained flats. Erection of 3-storey apartment building to provide 8 no. self-contained flats. Erection of 3 no. 3-storey.......
Enfield Council have recently clarified what exactly is allowed in the blue recycling wheelie bins. The main change is that plastic bags (including carrier bags) and plastic wrapping are no longer allowed, because other materials were being caught up in them.
For obvious reasons, the Council are adamant that nappies, even if unused, must not go in the blue bins, and the same is true of sanitary products. The Council is taking a "Zero Tolerance" approach because of the problems such.......

The heart of Palmers Green was looking a bit less sad yesterday (until the rain started, at any rate). This year's Christmas Tree now adorns the these days Treeless Triangle and at 4.30 sharp (actually, a little bit early I thought) its lights were duly switched on.
However, they were the only lights to be turned on - the Christmas lights that are normally strung along Green Lanes have yet to appear.
(Can anyone spot what's missing from the.......
The banana plant in Broomfield Conservatory has had a big bunch of fruit hanging from it for several months. The bananas have grown steadily larger, but stayed green, until a week or two ago. Now they are begining to ripen, as you can see from this photo.
So get round to the Conservatory while they're still there!
Broomfield Conservatory is maintained by volunteers and is open on Wednesdays and Sundays from 2pm to 4pm........

The latest video on Jenny Bourke's website Palmers Green Tales introduces us to Maxability, a rather unusual local charity which helps disabled adults maximise the development of their abilities.
The story told by Emil and Anita Woolf involves a house with a huge room, a monster grand piano that was played by Rachmaninoff, a series of top quality concerts and lectures and a Romanian pottery teacher.

A resident of Park Avenue in Palmers Green has set up an e-petition on the Enfield Council website asking for a barrier to be fitted at the entrance to an area of lock-up garages at the bottom of Park Avenue, near the footpath across the New River which gives access to Hazelwood Recreation Ground.
The petitioners are asking for a barrier to prevent access by flytippers and drug users to the area behind the brick wall
The petition reads:
We the undersigned petition the Council.......
