Coming soon to Southgate: a weekly Swing Dance club, with afternoon tea dances to follow!
Ever wished you could revisit the romantic and stylish dance venues of the 1930s, 40s and 50s? Well, starting next month you'll have plenty of opportunities as the Southgate Club will be hosting a weekly Swing Dance club with live bands featuring classic swing from those past decades and dancers from all over London ripping it up on the club's fabulous wooden dance floor!
The man behind the new venture is Swing entrepeneur Dave Piggott, who's been looking for a new north London Swing Dancing venue for a while:
"The Southgate Club is perfect – great floor, attractive surroundings, a good stage and house PA system, and easy access from the tube station, which is only five minutes from the club’s door”.
Dave says that once the club has been going for a while and a strong dance community has built up, he's planning to extend the range of events to include Sunday afternoon Tea Dances, DJs and Swing Dance teaching sessions.
Southgate Swing opens on Wednesday 3rd November with musical accompaniment supplied by Minnie & the Moochers. On 10th November the club will feature the fantastic gypsy-jazz trio Hot Club de Londres and on 24th November the stage will be taken over by the 251s.
