More than 100 people from PG and nearby came together last Saturday to spend the afternoon discussing their common challenges and ways of meeting them at the first Palmers Green Local Community Hub.
Organised jointly by Enfield Climate Action Forum (EnCAF), the local Co-op Membership Engagement Team and the social and environmental justice movement LocalMotion, the Hub was hosted by Palmers Green Mosque in their education centre in Oakthorpe Road.
Discussions at individual hub sessions were expertly guided by facilitators
Issues discussed included overcoming obstacles to people's wellbeing, improving the urban environment, better employment opportunities, how people of various faiths can come together to tackle climate change and associated threats to health, and how to survive the cost-of-living crisis and improve food security. The final presentation was given by Arianna Abdul-Nour, who will represent the UK's young people at the crucial COP28 climate talks.

Young people trained at Edmonton-based 21K Digital Media were on hand filming discussion sessions and interviewing participants. Footage recorded and edited by 21K will be published along with write-ups by session facilitators to create a record of the event and act as a basis for taking ideas forward at future events.
What an amazing turnout!
Francis Sealey from Enfield Climate Action Forum shares his first reactions to the successful Palmers Green local community hub.
The Palmers Green Hub took place yesterday with well over 100 people attending, which far surpassed our expectations.
It showed clearly that our people and communities really do want to discuss their locality and have some amazing ideas on how to improve it.
It was an outstanding multicultural event as well as intergenerational, with many young people there who took an active part.
The discussions produced a series of ideas and some interesting and positive social dynamics that created a real buzz throughout the whole afternoon.
There will be lots to do to go through the many ideas generated and develop some collaborative actions in the coming year. We will put some video inserts on our social networks once we have them all organised, as well as report on the survey results and the actions we can take.
Thanks to all who took part in making it a vibrant successful event and thanks to LocalMotion and the Co-op Membership Engagement Team for collaborating with us in making it run so well.
