The 2021 New Year Honours list includes the award of the British Empire Medal to Sabir Shaikh, who founded and is currently president of the Muslim Community and Education Centre in Oakthorpe Road (MCEC or "Palmers Green Mosque"). The official citation says that the medal was awarded "for services to the Muslim Community in Palmers Green, particularly during Covid-19".

Four further Enfield recipients of the same honour are Love Your Doorstep founder Emma Rigby, Jack Abrey, Joseph Lettieri and Irene Richards.
