Enfield Council is making some changes to waste and recycling collection arrangements designed to increase the amount of waste that is recycled.
- Aluminium foil (clean, with no food residue or grease) can now be put in the blue-lidded wheelie bin.
- Empty loose plastic carrier bags can now be put in the blue-lidded wheelie bin.
- Starting on 5th October all general waste must be put in the grey-lidded wheelie bin. Extra general waste in black bags will no longer be collected.
- Recycling that won't fit in your blue-lidded bin can now be collected if it is placed neatly alongside your recycling bin on your scheduled collection day, as can flattened cardboard. Larger cardboard boxes should be broken down into more manageable pieces.
The arrangement whereby extra bags of general waste can be left out was introduced on a temporary basis because households were generating extra waste during lockdown. It is now important to resume efforts to minimise the amount of waste that is not being recycled. Enfield households are failing to meet important targets for the proportion of waste that is recycled, and this is hampering efforts to combat climate change and environmental degradation.
The council has published a new booklet with detailed information about the changes and advice on how to reduce the amount of non-recyclable waste you generate and there is a section of the council website covering all aspects of waste and recycling, including information about recycling clothing, furniture and electrical items.
