Anja Porter launched the Broomfield Park Runners a couple of months ago, after moving to PG from Brighton and looking in vain for a local social running club to join.

The club is getting established, but still looking for new people to join and finding the best days and times.

At present there are early morning pre-work runs at 7am on Thursdays, while on Saturdays the runners meet at 9am and also welcome people who just want to walk around the park. Anja's also looking to start a Wednesday evening meeting.

However, what with the weather not always being ideal and people's availability varying, the runs don't always take place. To get round the problem, Anja has set up a WhatsApp group so that everyone can stay up to speed.

There's a new social running club around Broomfield Park! We're trying to establish a Wednesday evening, Thursday morning and Saturday morning running/walking meet-up and WE NEED YOU to make it happen!

The idea is to meet at the main gates on Aldermans Hill, get warmed up and then head off at whatever pace you're comfortable with (walking or running). On Saturday mornings we can also have a little coffee/tea after if people fancy that. For now the emphasis is very much on the social aspect and having a group for accountability.

We're using a WhatsApp community to coordinate, so please join this if you want to take part: bit.ly/broomfield-park-runners 🔗

The autumn/winter temperatures are making it a little difficult to get out these days but I'm hoping this group can help keep us all healthy 💪

While we admire and support the Christmas campaigns that we see pop up in December, we also know that help is urgently needed all year round, each and every year. As some people pack away after the festive break, we are still here.

Our support is not limited to a food package, but it leaps beyond - we form connections, we listen and respond to everyone who steps through our doors. We open up a warm, safe, environment which aims to feel like a home away from home.

For us to continue to thrive and grow, and keep supporting as many people as possible, we are asking you to become a Friend of Cooking Champions. Even a donation of just £5-10 per month can make a HUGE impact on the lives of those who come through our doors.

Pop to our People's Fundraising page to donate, and we promise to keep you updated with how your support is making a difference. Thank you, we appreciate you! Team Cooking Champions
