Enfield Council is inviting deaf and disabled people to apply to be members of the Journeys and Places Disability Reference Group, which will be set up this autumn. The Reference Group is being created to ensure that the views of deaf and disabled people are heard throughout the design phases of projects run by the council's Journeys & Places team.
The team's projects are designed to enable and encourage people to use environmentally sustainable means to make daily journeys. They include school streets, walking and cycling routes, quieter neighbourhoods, town centre public realm projects, parklets, cycle training, cycle parking, the Dr Bike service, and community events.
The Reference Group will provide advice at each public engagement stage of these projects. The role of group members will be to:
- Contribute feedback on designs of Journeys and Places projects based on their lived experience as a Deaf or Disabled person who lives, works or studies in Enfield
- Share their personal experiences and/or insights to help build an understanding across the Journeys and Places team of the needs of Deaf and Disabled people in relation to accessibility; public spaces; road safety; walking, cycling, using public transport and getting around the borough in other ways; and other themes related to the Journeys and Places programme.
Team members will be paid £100 for each meeting they attend.
More detailed information is available on the Let's Talk Enfield website, including an online application form and a link to the full terms of reference.
If you wish to apply in person, staff will be available to help at the council's two community hubs, at Enfield Town and Edmonton Green libraries, on Mondays to Fridays between 9.30am and 2.30pm.
The deadline for applying is 17th September .

Enfield Council's Journey's & Places team are again recruiting to their Disability Reference Group:
Enfield Council is currently looking for people to express their interest in becoming a member of a Disability Reference Group (DRG) that will help to shape projects delivered through the Council's Journeys and Places programme. The DRG was established in 2023 and has met to discuss projects such as Quieter Neighbourhoods, walking and cycling routes and measures, parklets and Town Centre improvements projects.
Enfield Council's Journeys and Places programme enables and encourages people in Enfield to make sustainable daily journeys for themselves and for our planet. We are connecting local people to local places for a greener, healthier future.
The deadline for applying is 4th August 2024.
