Forum topic: Wanted: deaf and disabled people to help advise the council on active travel and urban realm projects

Enfield Council is inviting deaf and disabled people to apply to be members of the Journeys and Places Disability Reference Group, which will be set up this autumn. The Reference Group is being created to ensure that the views of deaf and disabled people are heard throughout the design phases of projects run by the council's Journeys & Places team.

The team's projects are designed to enable and encourage people to use environmentally sustainable means to make daily journeys. They include school streets, walking and cycling routes, quieter neighbourhoods, town centre public realm projects, parklets, cycle training, cycle parking, the Dr Bike service, and community events.

The Reference Group will provide advice at each public engagement stage of these projects. The role of group members will be to:

• Contribute feedback on designs of Journeys and Places projects based on their lived experience as a Deaf or Disabled person who lives, works or studies in Enfield
• Share their personal experiences and/or insights to help build an understanding across the Journeys and Places team of the needs of Deaf and Disabled people in relation to accessibility; public spaces; road safety; walking, cycling, using public transport and getting around the borough in other ways; and other themes related to the Journeys and Places programme.

Team members will be paid £100 for each meeting they attend.

If you wish to apply in person, staff will be available to help at the council's two community hubs, at Enfield Town and Edmonton Green libraries, on Mondays to Fridays between 9.30am and 2.30pm.
