Fresh from local exertions such as Speakers Corner at the PG Festival, script writing was next and after a delay due to Covid the resulting film is now set for general release on 3rd September. ’The Duke’, co-written by PG’s Clive Coleman with Richard Bean, includes lead roles filled by no less than Jim Broadbent and Helen Mirren.

’The Duke' is based on the amazing true story of the audacious theft of Francisco Goya’s famous portrait of the Duke of Wellington from the National Gallery in 1961, and the extraordinary Old Bailey trial of Kempton Bunton, an out of work taxi driver from Newcastle, for stealing the portrait. It was a trial so improbable, it forced the government to change the law of theft!

Something to look forward to in September, and one for PG.
