I received today notification from Enfield Council of a planning application for the vacant land opposite the current hand car wash on the corner of Bourne Hill and Hoppers Road.
This junction is already fraught with difficulties:
1. It is difficult to pull out from Hoppers Road because of the blind spot caused by parked vehicles on Bourne Hill.
2. On dry days traffic for the existing car wash causes a build up of traffic queuing to get in.
3. The long-awaited and much-needed pedestrian crossing outside to the existing car wash will add to the frustration of drivers
I seriously doubt that Enfield will grant planning for another car wash but it would be helpful if concerned residents could lodge an objection to this planning application.

Despite refusal of planning permission the new carwash was open for business today - though there was no sign of any customers.

Yes. It was open today as well. Two guys appeared to be washing a car. When I tried to film their activity they became quite agitated.
I'm sure Enfield planning enforcement team will act quickly to put a stop to this...
But don't hold your breath.

What I don't understand is why a chap called David Mills, living near Sevenoaks, wants to open a car wash in Palmers Green!

"What I don't understand is why a chap called David Mills, living near Sevenoaks, wants to open a car wash in Palmers Green!"
David Mills was the architect from Sevenoaks who was acting for the applicant Andreas Michaelides trading as CYMA Petroleum 242 - 248 High Street, Barnet, Middx , EN5 5TD. Before the existing car wash had its current use the site was actually used as a Petroleum filling station

Enfield Council are now in the process of bringing a prosecution case against the car wash operator who has opened and continues to operate his car wash despite warning from the Council's planning officers.

I found out recently that the owner of the car wash has appealed to the Secretary of State against the council's decision to reject the planning permission.
14/00049/REFUSE | Change of use from a storage yard to hand car wash facility with canopy to car wash area, relocation of existing vehicle access, installation of bi-fold gate to site exit and clear perspex spray screen to existing fence. | Land Adjacent To 5 Bourne Hill London N13 4DA
I would be surprised if he is successful, given that he has opened the car wash without planning permission and has ignored the council's stop notice.
But we shall see...
