Here's an interesting bit of news! The Conservative administration in neighbouring Barnet was last month consulting on a proposed LTN designed to keep drivers on the A5 and stop them rat-running through residential streets in Burnt Oak and Colindale.
To quote from the consultation:
To help alleviate these problems we are proposing to introduce traffic measures in Booth Road and The Greenway which are aimed to help reduce vehicles taking short cuts through these roads and also intended to improve air quality, road safety and reduce noise from vehicles and traffic.
The proposed scheme is a type of road closure known as traffic filters which are enforced by Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras. The cameras are used to enforce ‘No Motor Vehicle’ restrictions where an access exemption is in place.
These traffic filters may mean that some local residents and businesses with properties in Booth Road and The Greenway will need to change their routes in and out of the roads to avoid passing the proposed enforcement cameras. However, at all times there will be no measures preventing residents and businesses accessing their properties in these roads.
Camera-enforced filters? Stopping vehicles taking short cuts? "No Motor Vehicle" restrictions? Some residents will have to change their routes? An 18-month trial? Where have I heard all that before, and which party has been loudly decrying all those ideas when they're suggested in Enfield? Who other than Enfield Conservatives, who consider them to be an abomination and have promised to rip them out if they win the elections in May?
