We can see policy issues being implemented and often they are not taken favourably by some, eg high rise buildings and transport changes to name two. But none of these have dropped from a clear blue sky. Tracking thinking in such as 2014’s London Infrastructure plan 2050, 2016’s A City for All Londoners and actual output in successive London Plan iterations neutralises or certainly lessens any such surprises.

London Plans are inevitably reappraised and rewritten over (quite lengthy) cycles. The current plan was signed off in March this year; work is inevitably underway on its successor. Research thinking will form part of the input.

The attached report, lengthy but much in large tables and so easy to skim in a short time, collates work from the last few years as to what a section of Londoners are looking for and various bodies and experts conclude makes for a good way ahead. It’s not a given and inevitably political in actual choices but understanding where others sit, as well as the direction of thought, is healthy for democracy.
If transport is your thing then see pages 37 -41. I’ve said many times previously that the direction of our transport is clear and this merely reemphasises that comment. Perhaps it’s time to think about not only that car journey but actually that car.
