Enfield Council has issued a report summarising the views obtained from residents during the second round of community engagement about planned improvements to the public realm in Enfield Town. It will also be presenting the same information at two webinars (online events) in late June and early July.
The second phase of public engagement followed the publication in October 2020 of the council's initial proposals, primarily comprising changes to improve conditions for pedestrians (wider pavements and better crossings) and cyclists (cycle lanes in both directions along Cecil Road). People were invited to give their views on the proposals and there were community workshops (held online) to design improvements for three existing public spaces - Enfield Town Station Plaza, Fountain Island, the Library Green - and a proposed new space with a working name of Saddlers Mill Square.
The Phase 2 Engagement Findings Report describes the engagement process and summarises the feedback received and the emerging design ideas for the four public spaces. The webinars, on 30th June at 6.30pm and 3rd July at 10am, will present the same information and provide an opportunity for questions and answers. If you're unable to make these dates, the sessions will be recorded and will be available to view online.
The council has been using the information collected during phase 2 of the engagement to revise the October 2020 proposals. However, this work is incomplete and the new designs won't be revealed until the winter.

Enfield Dispatch has an article reporting support for the scheme from the Enfield Town Business Association but reservations from the Enfield Town Residents Association (ETRA). These reservations come as no great surprise since ETRA uses social media to campaign against any schemes that take away space from cars in favour of pedestrians and cyclists (not just in Enfield, but throughout London) and the Enfield Town scheme proposes cycle lanes in Cecil Road and widened pavements throughout the town centre.
