Cllr Fonyonga makes a number of points, but the only one relevant to the question she was asked is that the catering van will follow the Healthy Catering Commitment. This commitment is worthwhile but is incredibly basic:
- use a monounsaturated or polyunsaturated oil containing less than 15 per cent saturated fat
- reduce the amount of salt used before and after cooking
- prominently display water and reduced sugar drinks
- advertise that smaller portions of some meals are available for adults and children
- ensure oil used for frying is correctly maintained.

I think the Council should go further than this very basic standard. Although the new guidelines for schools mentioned in Karl Brown's earlier post do not apply to the park, surely the principles should. In other words, part of helping people to have a healthy diet is to reduce the temptation for them to eat in an unhealthy way. The Council has a role in this, through the planning system to reduce the number of fast food outlets near schools, and through its contracts for outlets in parks to take account of the setting.

The damage to our park, meanwhile, continues apace...

That's so sad to see. Will report to Cllr Anderson, who always seems a decent chap, though I worry there's little he can do.
